Mixt Chatuchak Bangkok Shopping Mall Review – The Air-conditioned JJ Market

Feature-Page-Mixt-Chatuchak-Review

Mixt Chatuchak has over 300 shops covering food, drinks, apparel, anime toys, and even pets. Other than shopping and eating, at the same shopping mall you will also find value-added services like local, and international shipping, money exchange, and most importantly a decent toilet (for free).

Some people even refer to it as the air-conditioned version of Chatuchak Weekend Market. (JJ Market)

Based on my personal experience, I would say it is true or even better. First, you don’t need a map to navigate the market like you did for the weekend market.

The 3-floor shopping mall has a clear directory (also extracted below), helping you to locate the shops you are aiming for. Or else you can also check the floor plan and shop list on the official website first.

It is also just next to JJ Market, so you will want to get inside for more shopping, resting, or simply toileting. With that, let’s head to our review.

What To Eat In The Mall

Inside the shopping mall, there is a lot of food and drink available. Based on my last visit, the variety must be over 200, with over 50 shops. For individual restaurants or café, you can find them on the 1st and 2nd floors in different corners. Of course, the shopping mall also includes a huge food court on 3rd floor and there is an alley of street-food shops just outside the entrance of the ground floor.

Mixt Chatuchak Food Court Review

The food court is located on the 3rd floor of the mall. There are more than 30 restaurants selling food from local Thai food such as boat noodles, fried rice, curries, and pork knuckle rice to international restaurants selling burgers, steaks, and even desserts like waffles.

Despite the prime location (as the closest air-conditioned mall near JJ market), the average price in the food court is surprisingly low. I tried a boat noodle and a pork-knuckle rice during my two visits this year. Both are super tasty and only cost me ~ 140 THB.

It is worth mentioning that you cannot pay cash or card directly in the food court. You will need to either buy a top-up call at the counter on both sides (no worries unused amount can be refunded) or check out directly with a rabbit card.

Last but not least, the food court is also the place where you can take the signature Chatuchak market photo with a bird-eye view.

Other Restaurants, Cafes And Street-food Shops

If you want to have small bites or street food instead, then head to the alley just outside the ground floor. There you can find a row of shops selling Thai-BBQ stews and other street food. If you prefer to chill out at a café, there are also multiple options in the mall.

On the 2nd floor, you can find a cat café and also a dog café for you to have a good time to chill out.

Shopping at Mixt Chatuchak

Shopping is also the main activity inside the mall. The 2nd floor of the mall has multiple shops specializing in selling anime-related goods that include toys, figures, and other collections. It is also a feature of the mall, as you cannot find the same in JJ market or most of the places in Bangkok.

If you are looking for apparel, then you cannot miss the shops on the 1st floor & 2nd floor. There not only you will find shops selling Thai-style clothes like Hawaiian T-shirts. Also, there are pop-up shops in the middle area selling clothes for only around 150 THB. You can also find shoes, shorts, and other apparel there. Beyond apparel, you can also find wallets, bags, magnetics, and basically all souvenir types there.  The price is comparable or even cheaper than that of the JJ market outside.

On the same 1st floor, you will find the famous “100 THB shops”, there you can buy souvenirs including dried fruit, candy, snacks, skin-cares and Thai-herbal massage cream with only 100 THB. It is cheaper than most of the shops elsewhere in Bangkok again.

Pet shops

On the 1st / ground floor, there are several pet shops selling tortoises, lizards, and even snakes. While I do not think that you would buy a pet in Thailand as a tourist, you may want to just do some window shopping. And from an ethical perspective, at least the pets there seem to be more well-treated than the pets at the weekend market outside.

Other Services The Shopping Mall

Apart from shopping and eating, you will find other services relevant there. First, there is a clean and decent toilet on the 2nd floor of the mall. This is especially important when you spend a day in Chatuchak Weekend market.

Second, there is also a money exchanger inside the mall on the 1st Floor. Based on my observation, the rate is not as good as the Super Rich Chain. However, it is less than 2% worse off, so you may still want to use the service if you are out of cash for convenience’s sake.

There is a 7-11 on the 1st floor, just in case you need any item. Other than that, you can also find massage shops inside the mall. The service level is similar to the one at JJ market but obviously, the environment is better.

You can also find multiple shipping companies including Flash, Sabuy, and DHL there. However, the international shipping cost would be 1,000 THB plus. So unless you buy a very valuable product there (which is unlikely), you may not be using the service.

Mixt Chatuchak Bangkok Shopping Mall Review Conclusion

In short, the shopping mall is the best supplementary base for the Chatuchak Weekend market, especially during sunny and rainy days. I would even suggest you to go this shopping mall first before starting your treasure hunt at the weekend market.

So that you will have a rough idea of the goods’ variety and price. Also, in my opinion, having lunch here is better than in the open-air market outside.
