This blog post is for you to select between VinWonders or Sun World Phu Quoc if you have limited days in Phu Quoc.
I went to both theme parks during my last 7-day trip to Phu Quoc. My conclusion?
As a standalone theme park, Sun World is a lot better than VinWonders.
Yet, if you have to take into consideration other attractions nearby, then I have to pick VinWonders.
Below is my honest review.

Choosing Between Two Parks
Both Sun World and Vinwonders are signature icons in Phu Quoc. Unfortunately, they are on opposite ends of the island. Whichever you choose be reminded to select your tickets online which is generally cheaper with different add-ons.
Both Theme Parks In A Nutshell

To understand the difference between the two, you first need to look at what each park represents and how they are positioned on the island.
Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park is developed by Sun Group—the exact same developer behind Sun World Ba Na Hills in Da Nang. Located on Hon Thom island off the southern coast of Phu Quoc, it is an offshore island park centered around coastal nature, tropical beaches, and modern thrill rides. Getting there is half the excitement: you arrive at the An Thoi cable car departure station (grandly styled like an ancient Roman Colosseum) and board the famous Hon Thom Cable Car, flying high above colorful wooden fishing boats, floating seafood farms, and emerald waters before landing on the island.
On the far northern coast lies VinWonders Phu Quoc, developed by Vingroup. Spanning over 50 hectares, it is marketed as the largest theme park in Vietnam. It is divided into 6 themed zones: European Street Atmosphere, Fantasy World, Mysterious Viking Village, The Sea Shell Aquarium, Typhoon World Water Park, and Adventure World, wrapping up each evening with the ONCE multimedia light and laser projection show at the fairytale castle.
However, in reality, VinWonders Phu Quoc felt a lot smaller in substance than its promotional hype suggests. The rides are generally less interesting, the walk between zones feels somewhat sparse, and it does not even feature a proper musical water fountain show compared to the massive island park I covered in my Nha Trang VinWonders review.
What Both Theme Parks Have

When you strip down the marketing, both theme parks share the exact same core foundation: land rides and a water park.
Both parks offer rides with varying levels of intensity tailored for both thrill-seeking adults and families with small children. However, Sun World’s roller coaster is substantially more exciting. Sun World features “Roaring Timbers” (Má»™c Xà Thịnh Ná»™), Vietnam’s first and only wooden roller coaster. Reaching speeds of 80 km/h with sudden drops, intense airtime, and loud rattling over creaking wooden tracks, it delivers an adrenaline rush that easily outperforms anything at VinWonders. Sun World also features the “Eagle’s Eye” 360-degree rotating observation tower, which gently lifts you 120 meters into the sky for unobstructed panoramic views over the Gulf of Thailand. In comparison, VinWonders’ signature coaster, “The Wrath of Zeus,” felt much more generic and had a somewhat bumpy, disjointed ride experience.
The water park comparison is just as stark. Sun World’s Aquatopia Water Park is much newer, featuring over 20 modern slides, lazy rivers, and themed water zones with high-grade safety equipment and playful splash pads. At VinWonders’ Typhoon World, on the other hand, the water quality had a noticeably yellowish, murky tint during my visit, which made swimming far less appealing.

For Those Who Want To Chill Near Water
Sun World has more sophisticated waterpark as compared to Vinwonders. Along with their own crafted beers, it is for those who want a relaxing afternoon.
Both parks offer lunch buffet add-ons with your ticket, but the Sun World buffet at Mango Restaurant was far better quality. The food selection was fresher, the variety of hot Vietnamese dishes, seafood, and desserts was wider, the dining hall was bright and airy, and the meal felt genuinely enjoyable like a real resort dining experience:
At VinWonders, on the other hand, the buffet at The Gateway Restaurant felt like a crowded, chaotic cafeteria rush. While it provides plenty of food to refuel for the afternoon, the quality, flavor, and dining comfort were far more basic:
In terms of pure facilities, maintenance, and ride excitement, I easily vote for Sun World.
What VinWonders Has But Sun World Doesn’t

Even though Sun World wins on standalone rides, VinWonders has several unique anchor attractions that Sun World lacks entirely.
First is The Sea Shell Aquarium, housed inside an enormous stone turtle structure beside the lake with air-conditioned underwater tunnels, touch tanks, and a daily Mermaid Show. However, keep your expectations realistic: it is relatively small compared to the premier oceanariums I explored in my Hong Kong Ocean Park review and my Cebu Ocean Park review. It is pleasant for an hour of indoor cooling, but it is not a world-class aquarium.
VinWonders also features a gigantic Ferris wheel (The Phu Quoc Eye) that provides sweeping aerial views of the northern forest canopy, as well as the ONCE night show—a 20-minute multimedia spectacle with 3D projection mapping, live actors, fire bursts, and water screens in front of the castle.
Shops-wise, VinWonders has several indoor foot massage and spa shops near the entrance promenade where you can take a relaxing break in air conditioning. Sun World, in contrast, only offers basic open-air outdoor massage huts by the beach.
In general, VinWonders covers a larger physical area with “Disney-like” fairytale castle facades. However, many of the themed attractions are aimed squarely at younger kids. Rather than feeling like a true Disney park, the style feels much more like a supersized version of Suoi Tien Theme Park in Ho Chi Minh City—colorful and energetic, but far from high-end international theme park standards.
What Sun World Has But VinWonders Doesn’t

Sun World’s greatest strengths are its breathtaking arrival journey, natural beach setting, and grown-up holiday atmosphere.
First is the signature Hon Thom Cable Car. Certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest 3-rope sea-crossing cable car at nearly 8 kilometers (7,899 meters), this 20-minute ride across the sea provides jaw-dropping panoramic views of green islands, coral reefs, and vibrant fishing fleets below. Gliding smoothly across the ocean breeze in a modern 30-passenger cabin, the cable car ride alone justifies the entire cost of your admission ticket.
Once you arrive on the island, Sun World gives you direct access to Bai Trao Beach—a clean, white-sand tropical beach lined with coconut palms, free sun loungers, and warm turquoise water. If you want more action, you can also book paid water sports like jet skiing, sea kayaking, and parasailing directly on the beach.
Sun World also caters much better to adults through its dining and beverage scene. You will find quality beachfront coffee shops and fresh craft beer brewed right on-site (Sun KraftBeer), allowing you to sit by the sea with a cold drink while watching the waves roll in.
Overall, the atmosphere at Sun World is much more chill, scenic, and relaxing—making it far better suited for adults, couples, and solo travelers.

For Those Who Look For Uniqueness
One of the feature of SunWorld is the longest cable car in the world. The scenic cable car ride includes panoramic view on the sea, people playing water activities and of course the whole theme park.
How About Other Nearby Attractions?

For Sun World in the south, your surrounding hub is Sunset Town. Built like a picturesque Italian Mediterranean hillside village, it features the famous Kiss Bridge (Cầu Hôn), the nightly Kiss of the Sea multimedia show with fireworks, and Symphony of the Sea jet ski stunt shows. Sunset Town also houses Vietnam Select, a large modern supermarket with an excellent selection of local pepper, fish sauce, and Vietnamese sweets that are often cheaper and far less chaotic than King Kong Mart in central Duong Dong.
For VinWonders in the north, you are inside the massive Vinpearl ecosystem. This includes Grand World Phu Quoc (featuring Venetian-style canals, water taxi rides, and a Teddy Bear Museum) and Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc. Note that boutique shops and restaurants inside Grand World are generally more expensive than local dining in central or southern Phu Quoc.
Variety-wise, VinWonders and the northern hub win on sheer options. But for chilling relaxation and ocean vistas, Sun World is clearly better.
However, given that Vinpearl Safari is the only place I have ever visited across 80+ countries where you can step inside an enclosure and interact up-close with furry ring-tailed lemurs hopping onto your shoulders, if I were strictly forced to choose only one hub on the island, I would have to pick VinWonders.
Conclusion: Sun World or VinWonders?
The best answer is to do both—trust me, if you have a full week in Phu Quoc, both parks are well worth visiting on separate days.
However, if you are staying in Phu Quoc for less than 5 days, use this rule of thumb:
- Pick Sun World if you are traveling as a couple, solo, or with friends. It is newer, more relaxing, has better thrill coasters, a superior lunch buffet, and an unforgettable sea cable car and beach experience.
- Pick VinWonders if you are traveling with a multi-generational family or younger kids who want to see the aquarium. More importantly, if interacting with lemurs at Vinpearl Safari is on your bucket list like it was for me, then the northern Vinpearl complex is your only real choice.
If not for that unique lemur feeding interaction next door, I would have chosen Sun World without hesitation.

Go For Both If You Have Time
Both Sun World and Vinwonders are signature icons in Phu Quoc. If you have 5 days or more in Phu Quoc, I would recommend you to go for both parks.
Frequently Asked Questions About VinWonders and Sun World Phu Quoc
- How long should you spend at Sun World vs VinWonders Phu Quoc? For Sun World, if you ride the cable car, chill on Bai Trao Beach, explore Aquatopia water park, and take your time enjoying the amazing Mango Restaurant buffet, you can easily spend over 6 hours enjoying a relaxed island day. For VinWonders, despite its large variety of themed zones, most rides are not worth playing multiple times. However, because you need to wait for the signature 7:00 PM ONCE night show, the best strategy is to do Vinpearl Safari in the morning and enter VinWonders after 1:00 PM (especially if you have the buffet lunch option with your combo ticket), giving you around 5 to 6 hours to cover the aquarium, key highlights, and the evening castle show without running out of things to do.
- Can you visit both VinWonders and Sun World Phu Quoc on the same day? No. They are located at opposite ends of the island—VinWonders in the far north and Sun World in the far south—separated by over 50 kilometers. Traveling between them takes over an hour each way, so budget them on separate days.
- Which theme park has better rides and water slides? Sun World Hon Thom has far better thrill rides. Its wooden roller coaster “Roaring Timbers” is much more exciting than “The Wrath of Zeus” at VinWonders, and the Aquatopia Water Park is newer, cleaner, and better maintained.
- Is Sun World or VinWonders cheaper? Sun World is generally cheaper. A round-trip cable car and water park combo ticket costs around 650,000 to 800,000 VND (~$26–$32 USD), whereas standalone VinWonders admission starts at 950,000 VND (~$38 USD).
- Which park is better for young children? VinWonders is better suited for families with younger kids due to The Sea Shell aquarium, fairytale castle shows, and gentle kid-friendly rides. Sun World is better tailored for adults, couples, and teenagers who enjoy beaches, ocean views, and thrill coasters.
- Are there luggage and locker storage facilities at Sun World and VinWonders? Yes. Instead of paying extra for front-gate luggage storage, the smartest strategy is to rent a locker inside the water park section of each park (Aquatopia at Sun World or Typhoon World at VinWonders). Since you will want to change into swimwear for the water slides anyway, these lockers serve as the most practical home base for your backpack and day essentials. Just keep two key practical tips in mind:
- VinWonders locker access myth: Even though signs and staff may tell you that VinWonders lockers are strictly ‘one-time use,’ that is actually not true in practice. Your locker key can be opened and re-locked freely whenever you need to grab something throughout the day.
- Be mindful of water park closing hours: Water park zones close earlier than the main dry theme parks (typically around 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM). Ensure you retrieve your belongings and change back into dry clothes before the water park locker rooms close, especially if you plan to stay until 7:00 PM for the ONCE night show at VinWonders.
