Jodd Fairs Night Market offers a convenient place for eating and shopping in Bangkok. It is conveniently located near Rama 9, offering over 600 shops for food, beverage, and fashion boutiques.
“Jodd Fairs” is a brand of night markets in Bangkok. Rama 9 Jodd Fairs is the most convenient near Asok (the location famous for terminal 21 and nightlife). Given that Jodd Fairs shares the same organizer of the old train night market in Bangkok, you can see a lot of similarities in the night market.
It is most famous for its variety of food including Leng Zabb (Thai Pork Rib Mountain), Kung Tep (Seasoned seafood platter), etc. Around 70% of the shops there serve different kinds of Thai local street food.
Other than eating you can also find several fashion boutique shops there. Although the variety is less than the Chatuchak market, surprisingly you may find some hidden gems here.
Jodd Fair Night Market operates every day from 4 pm to 12:00 am.
Lastly, the rental contracts of Jodd Fairs seem to end in 2024. So you should go there while it is still HERE!
How to get to Jodd Fairs Night Market
First, you need to locate the right Jodd Fairs on Google Maps, as mentioned earlier there is another Jodd Fairs called Jodd Fairs DanNeramit located in another place.
Then the best way to get to Jodd Fairs night market is to take the MRT and get off at Phra Ram 9 station. The Phra Ram 9 station is just two stations from Asok station. There is no BTS station nearby, so the nearest BTS station would be getting off at BTS Asok station and walking to Asok MRT station for subsequent travel.
Soft remember MRT and BTS in Bangkok are two separate public transport systems. MRT is the underground where you can pay your fare with Visa NFA. BTS is the Skytrain where you need to either buy a one-off ticket or buy a top-up rabbit card or one-day rabbit card via Klook (Discover Bangkok with Ease: BTS Skytrain One Day Pass – Your Ultimate Ticket to Explore the City – Klook United States)
Closest mall near Jodd Fairs Night Market
Getting off from the MRT station, you should go to the exit of Central Rama 9 Mall. It is a large air-conditioned mall located just next to the night market. Not only you can recharge yourself at a Spa shop, but it is also the place where you can find a decent toilet near Jodd Fairs Night Market.
At Central Rama 9, follow the sign and you can reach there within 3 minutes.
Top 5 best food in Jodd Fairs Night Market
Look there are over a hundred kinds of food available in the night market. It is impossible (money-wise & stomach-wise) to taste every bite of that. So I have our top 5 recommendations for food (including drinks) for you.
Leng Zabb (Thai Pork Rib Mountain / Volcano)
Piling up many pork ribs on a plate and adding Thai spicy herbs and lemons, Leng Zabb is a must-try and the best food in Jodd Fairs night market. Despite its fame, it is not expensive at all. You can have a middle size at 180 THB (~ 5.5 USD), a large size at (~7.6 USD), an extra large size at (~10.7 USD), and an extra-large size (largest and looks like a volcano) at (~ 30 USD).
So which size should you choose?
Well, if you would like to reserve a quota for other dishes then
M size should be for 1 – 2 people
L size should be for 2 – 4 people
XL size should be for 4 – 6 people
XXL size should be for 8 people plus
The most IGable size is of course the XXL which looks like a volcano. However, if you are going alone or with less than 4 people. I suggest you take a photo of the display near the counter instead. Also from the below photo, you can find the most famous Leng Zabb in the market.
Kung Tep (Seafood Platter)
Kung Tep is another must-try in the market. It is a mixed seafood platter usually including oysters, clams, prawns, squids, and even lobster. The seafood is well-cooked and soaked in local tomato sauce. You will need to eat the seafood with the plastic glove provided.
Dancing Shrimp & Squid Shot
Another feature of the night market is dancing shrimp and squid shots. For dancing shrimp, it is Thai shrimp sashimi sprinkled on Thai salad. And for Squid Shot, well as the name suggested you should expect a shot with squid sashimi on it. Both shrimps and squids are raw.
Yes, it is a special dish that you cannot find in most of the other night markets like Chatuchak and Watergate night market. However, you should think twice, in case you don’t have a good stomach.
Cannabis Tea
Do you know that Cannabis is already legal in Bangkok? Afraid of the strong effect of cannabis but still want to try its by-product? There is a cannabis tea ice tea shop called Best Bear. It is a good pair with the savory Thai street food.
Coconut ice-cream
With all the food and drinks, our last recommendation is of course ice cream. There are various flavors of ice cream available for selection including coconuts, durian, milk tea, and others. Our recommendation is the coconut ice cream. If you have an appetite, you should try the coconut ice cream embedded in the whole coconut.
Top 5 shopping items in Jodd Fairs Night Market
Other than the delicious cuisines, you can also find some fashion boutiques at the market. Surprisingly, there are some hidden gems here as well.
Lady Dresses
At the corner of the first alley from the market entrance (from Rama 9 mall), you will find a lady apparel shop with fancy dresses. There are several one-piece dresses in cute and Japanese styles selling for only 150 THB (~ 4.5 USD). Surprisingly, this is the only place we found such high-quality women’s one-piece dresses in Thailand. The cozy style is especially suitable for casual wear during the holiday.
Other than the recommended on-pieces, there are also 100 THB women’s apparel there.
Thai Apparel
Thai trousers, blazers, t-shirts, and even bags. Of course, the night market has all the classic Thai apparel in store. And most importantly it is only selling at 100 THB (~ 3 USD). Just one note, the 100 THB shop as the name suggested has a fixed price, so there is little room for a bargain unless you buy a lot.
Socks Shops
Other than apparel, there are also several well-decorated scent shops in the market. It is a good item for souvenirs and self-use. However, the price would be slightly more expensive than Chatuchak market but it shall be offset by the convenience of Jodd Fairs itself.
Accessories Shops
Amongst the food shops, you will also find some accessories shops selling items from phone cases, and wallets to earrings. While I am not an expert in the price of them, you may be able to find worthy items.
Conclusion
600 shops. Yet, it is definitely worth going given its proximity to the Bangkok city center, accessible via MRT and most importantly being one of the markets with the most Thai food in Bangkok.
In fact, for food variety, it has more choices than Chatuchak market. Plus the operates everyday instead of only weekend.
I am not sure if they will continue to operate after the end of the rental contract in 2024, but you definitely should go while it is here.
Remember to leave me a comment about your visit.
