This is a Kuwait Tower Review to show you what it is like going up the tower.
Kuwait is not a Country with a lot of tourist attractions. If you are visiting there, like I did (for putting a tick on a New Country), then the Kuwait Tower is the one that you could not afford to miss.
Not only is this the most representative icon in Kuwait, but it is also the best view in the Country too.

Kuwait Full Day Tour Is Available
Kuwait is not a tourist Country. You can cover most of the major attractions within 1 day. There are a couple of tour packages available online for around 150 USD. Although it is not cheap, the fee would be similar if you were to go alone, given that Kuwait is an expensive Country.
What is the Kuwait Tower?

Officially opened to the public in 1979, the Kuwait Towers serve as a water tower and also the most iconic symbol of the Country. Designed by a Swedish company, the towers were commissioned in 1965 by Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water as part of a larger water distribution system. They were the sixth and final group in a network of 34 water towers across Kuwait.
The main tower is 187 metres and carries two spheres. The lower sphere serves as a water tank for the lower half, and the upper half as a restaurant for the buffet restaurants. The upper sphere is the two-deck observation area (this is where you will go with 3 KD). The second tower serves as a pure water tower, and the third one stores the equivalent to illuminate the two larger towers.
Damaged during the 1990-1991 Gulf War by Iraqi forces, they were restored and reopened in 1992, representing resilience. In 1980, the project won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture for its innovative design. Today, the Kuwait Towers’ UNESCO status is on the tentative list as “Abraj Al-Kuwait”.
Is The Kuwait Tower Worth Going?

Yes, in fact, this is the only icon in Kuwait that amazed me during my stay in the country. Other icons are relatively similar to those of other GCC countries, but the Kuwait Towers offer something special.
There are two decks on the Kuwait Tower, providing panoramic views that make the visit unforgettable. The first deck seems to be a normal observation deck, accessible via the elevator after a security check. This deck is elevated at about 120 meters with wooden decoration and toilets.
The best one is the second one, one level up from the first deck, connected by stairs, is amazing. The deck itself is a 360-degree rotating viewing glass sphere, like a greenhouse, completing a full turn every 30 minutes, which gives you a dynamic perspective without even moving.
There is a cafĂ© there, providing simple drinks and food, not fancy, but the price is reasonable, with coffee or snacks starting around 1-2 KD. The greatest thing is that you have the best view of the whole of Kuwait City and the Arabian Gulf. You can even have a clear view of Aqua Park from there, the nearby water park that’s a fun spot for families.
There are tall tables that are the best to be used for selfie stands, even if you are traveling solo—perfect for capturing that rotating backdrop without needing a tripod.
As compared to the entrance fee of 3 KD (~ 10 USD), this is the best-valued icon value in the Country.
What To Know Before Going to the Kuwait Tower
Planning makes the visit smooth, so here’s what to know before heading to the Kuwait Towers. The opening hours are from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily, including weekends and holidays, though timings might adjust during Ramadan or special events—always double-check on the official site.
The entry fee for the viewing sphere is 3 KD (~ 10 USD) per adult, with children under 4 entering free.
Also, there are add-on options like the buffet on the Kuwait Tower at the Horizon Restaurant, which offers breakfast for 8.5 KD, lunch or dinner for 14 KD per adult (children’s rates are lower, around 5-8 KD). If you dine there, the viewing deck fee is often waived, making it a smart combo for a meal with a view. The buffet features a mix of international and oriental dishes, and it’s a great way to extend your time in the towers.
Remember, the fee is payable via card only online. The ticket counter will also share with you the QR code for the link to buy in case you didn’t book in advance. Just make sure you have a phone with internet access.
How To Go To Kuwait Tower?
The best way to go Kuwait Tower is via Careem. The fare is usually around 2 to 3 KD from the city center, with a ride duration of around 8 minutes. There is no bus stop near the Kuwait Tower, the closest one is around 24 minutes walk near the “Hope School Playground”.  Of course, when you’re preparing for a Kuwait visit, also make sure to check out my other post about things to know before Kuwait for tips on visas, currency, and local customs.
The Best Photo Spots of the Kuwait Tower

Capturing the perfect shot is half the fun, and the Kuwait Towers offer plenty of angles. Of course, on the second floor of the observation deck, it’s the best for the Kuwait landscape and also taking a photo inside the sphere—the rotating motion adds a cool element to your pics, with the Arabian Gulf shimmering in the background.
Other than that, don’t forget to take a photo from the entrance where you can have a picture of all three towers together with a Kuwait flag waving nearby—it’s an iconic frame that screams national pride. The view is a bit different at night, with the towers lit up in colorful lights, but morning and sunset are more recommended for limited-time travelers, as the natural light enhances the blues of the gulf and the city’s skyline.
Kuwait Tower Review – The Best Icon In The Country
Wrapping up this Kuwait Towers review, it’s clear why they earn the title of the best icon in the country. From the rotating viewing sphere that offers unmatched vistas of Kuwait City and the Arabian Gulf to their historical significance as symbols of modernization and resilience.
Most importantly, Kuwait is not a Country with many touristic things to do. So it is probably the best one and easiest to go to compared to all others.

For Those Who Want A Tick On A New Country
Of all the GCC Countries I have been to, Kuwait has fewer attractions for tourists. Although it is a very safe Country, it is far from tourist-friendly. The most efficient use of annual leaves to explore the world is probably to have 1 full day there with an organised tour, then move on to the next GCC Country the next day
