Go Ang Pratunam Hainanese Chicken Rice 2 Review

Go Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice 2 Review Feature Page

This blog post includes food recommendations, menus, branches, and other information to review the Go Ang Pratunam Hainanese Chicken Rice 2 in Bangkok.

Established in 1960 Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice is a brand that achieved Michelin recommendation awards in 2018 – 2020.

With growing popularity among tourists and locals alike, the brand has 4 branches at Phetcaburi Road, Pratunam, Pichaiyat Building, and Siam Paragon.

Today our review mainly focuses on GO Ang Pratunam Hainanese Chicken Rice 2 (the Pratunam branch). Despite the food, price, and menu being the same across 4 branches, this one is the most popular given its proximity to Bic C Super Center, Central World, Pratunam Market, Erwan Shrine, and Central World.

I have been to this branch twice and highly recommend you have a meal there.

The Menu

The shop’s menu is straightforward. On the cover, it is the oldest shop founded in 1960 for the brand. Inside the menu, there is a main page introducing different combinations and top-ups for Pratunam Chicken Rice.

Turning to the next page. You will see other side dishes or non-chicken rice options including braised port rice, Thai Salted fish fried rice, egg fried rice; side dishes like crispy tofu, different kinds of chicken soup, duck soup, pork soup, and vegetables.

Of course, the menu also includes drink options such as barley water, Thai milk tea, coffee, and other drinks.

From the menu, a normal chicken rice is merely 65 THB (~ 2 USD). Even topping up with all other options with drinks and side dishes, it is hard to go beyond 200 THB for one person. So given its fame and quality, this is an exceptionally good option.

Ordering

If you have a bit of introverted characteristic like me, you would also find the order chits very useful. There are two order chits for you to tick your option for dine-in. The first one is for food and the second one is for drinks.

All the prices and options are concisely listed in Thai, English, and Chinese. So you shall have no trouble picking your dishes.

Top Food Recommendations

Needless to say, the must-try here is the Hainanese Chicken Rice. There are two options of chicken namely steamed or fried. If you are going there for the first time, you should pick mixed chicken rice (like the one I show on the feature page). On top of that, you can pick top-ups like chicken giblet, liver, gizzard, and blood curd. Well, it is not for everyone but I tried and it’s quite tasty.

If you are going there a second time or with family or friends, my suggestion is to order 1 or 2 chicken rice and paired with side dishes.

My recommended side dishes are “Crispy tofu with salt and chili max”, “Duck and shitake mushroom soup” and “Sichuan stir-fried green beans”.

Remember chicken rice comes first, others come second.

For the drinks, I prefer barley water or longan drinks. Other options especially the Thai Milk Teas are too sweet for me (Thai people usually use sugar excessively).

Dining Environment

Unlike the other branches, the Pratunam one seems to be the most well-decorated. The restaurant has a decent toilet, a nice bar for drink making, and comfortable seats for the customers.

The staff are friendly in the signature pink uniform.

Given its prime location and proximity to multiple tourist attractions, there are lines during lunch or dinner hours. Sometimes you have to wait even if you go there at 11 am or 3 pm. Luckily, you can grab a waiting ticket first at the counter and the information board outside will show you how many seats are in front of you.

So you should grab the ticket first while checking out attractions nearby to save time.

The Big C Headquarters is on the same side of the road within 3 minute’s walk. You can even put your luggage at Big C first. The Central World is just within 5 minutes’ walk and 8 minutes walk from the Erwan Shrine nearby.

Branches and Opening Hours

Again the menu across the branches is the same. Most of them are reachable via BTS for example the chicken rice 2 is near Chit Lom BTS station.
