The 5 days family Hong Kong itinerary with Disneyland includes full details that help you get the most out of your first-time visit. Despite being a small cosmopolitan city, Hong Kong has a great variety of activities that will never get you bored.
With its colonial history backdrop, this place offers a great cultural experience of the West and East. In every district of Hong Kong, you can find numerous great street foods, including the famous Hong Kong egg tart, egg bubble waffle, fishball, and others.
Of course, it is also the place with Disneyland and the first Frozen-themed session in the world. Not to mention the HK Ocean Park – a local theme park offers a variety of thrill-rides and animal exhibitions (and newborn pandas).
Other than the cultural and cosmopolitan features, it is also a place with natural wonders, just near the skyscrapers. Most of the hiking trails in Hong Kong are within 1 hour’s travel distance. It is one of the few places in the world, other than Tbilisi, that allows you to be back in civilization immediately right after your hike. Not to mention, there are multiple outlying islands for you to chill out with less than 1 hour’s travel.
Most importantly, all these activities are good for solo-travelers, couples, and families alike. You can plan your trip to Hong Kong easily for your family. This blog post is to assist you in planning a 5 day Hong Kong itinerary for family travel.
Day 1: Explore The Hong Kong Culture
For every travel, I always recommend understanding the local culture first. On the first morning, you could visit the old town central area of Hong Kong. There you will find multiple colonial architectures with modern revitalizations such as the Old Central Market, Tai Kwun, and PMQ. This is also the place where you can find the famous Man Mo Temple. After lunch, you can head to Mongkok for the modern local culture of Hong Kong. Mongkok is the place where you can indulge in the local culture, taste all the best street foods, visit several icons, and do some shopping. All the attractions are clustered at the three main streets, namely Fa Yuen Street, Sai Yeung Choi Street South, and Tung Choi Street.
There are endless things to do in Mongkok for your family. For example, you can shop at Ladies Market, T.O.P., and Argyle Center. While sightseeing at icons like Flower Market, Bird Market, and Gold Fish Market, your family can enjoy most of the Hong Kong street food on the way. I would recommend you to end the day with a dinner at Mongkok for the itineraries for the coming days. Or else you could also head back to Central and take the tram to the Peak for the night view of Hong Kong.
Day 2 Family Time At The Magical World
The second day is a memorable family day at the Hong Kong Disneyland. If you are only budgeting one day for the theme park, you may consider using the Arendelle Royal Breakfast Buffet for early entry (or else just getting in at 10 am would still be fine). Day 3 Relax On Cheung Chau (A Convenient Outlying Island)
To recover from the hectic day at Disneyland, on day 3, you can take your family to Cheung Chau, a relaxing outlying island just 30 minutes away from Central Pier. Once you arrive, explore the charming Main Street, where you’ll find local shops, street food stalls, and vibrant markets. Don’t miss the famous Cheung Chau Mango Mochi, a delightful treat with a unique blend of flavors, perfect for starting your culinary adventure.
Feel free to pick a fancy coffee shop and spend your time there. If you are eager to explore more, there are several family-friendly trails such as Cheung Po Tsai Cave and Mini Great Wall Trails. Alternatively, you could also chill at Kwun Yam Beach, enjoying the sea and sunset with your family.

Day 4: Get Into Nature
Unknown to most people, Hong Kong is the few cities in the world surrounded by hilly mountains. That means you could get into nature without spending a long time in traffic. For first-time visitors, my top recommendation would be the Tai Tam Family Walk situated in the Eastern part of Hong Kong Island.
The hike along Tai Tam Reservoir Road offers stunning views of lush greenery, picturesque reservoirs, and historical structures like the Masonry Bridge. This leisurely walk is accessible for all ages, making it perfect for kids and pets. The route is mostly flat, taking about 2.5 hours to complete, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos.
You can start your hike at around 10 am or so. By 3 pm or so, you would be getting back to the Eastern District of Hong Kong. This district is another hidden gem in Hong Kong for your family.
Unlike Central, Mongkok, Disneyland, or the Big Buddha, the Eastern District hosts a lot of underrated icons of Hong Kong, including the famous Yick Cheong Monster Building. It is a striking complex of five interconnected residential buildings that has become a popular spot for photos. Originally just a local neighborhood, it gained fame after being featured in movies like Transformers.
Other than a family walk, there are also more challenging routes in Hong Kong, like Sharp Peak, but you may need to get well prepared before going there.
On the night of day 4, I would suggest that you enjoy a buffet dinner with your family. As one of the cities with the most skyscrapers, Hong Kong has a lot of great buffets at a reasonable price. For example, recently I had a dinner buffet at Ritz Carlton (situated at 103 th floor of the ICC building) with my family for only ~ 63 USD. Final Day With Animal Encounter
For your final day in Hong Kong, immerse your family in a thrilling and educational experience at Hong Kong Ocean Park. As one of the oldest hybrid theme parks in the city, Ocean Park combines exhilarating rides with remarkable animal encounters, making it an ideal destination for all ages. Begin your adventure early, as the park opens at 10 AM, allowing ample time to explore its diverse attractions.
Start at the South Pole Spectacular in the Polar Adventure area, where you can marvel at over 90 penguins from various species. This exhibit not only showcases these charming creatures but also offers opportunities for interactive feeding sessions, adding a memorable touch to your visit.
