To take an Uber from Cape Town International Airport (CPT), you need to head to the Parkade P1. The price is around 200 ZAR for going to the city center and it is the safest option you can take in Cape Town from Ariprot for the moment.
Based on my personal experience, you can find all the information you need to know for taking Uber from Cape Town Airport.
Uber Pick-up Location CPT Airport
Clearing the customs and passing through several Cape Town in a nutshell exhibitions, you will see a notice board with multiple options. From there, you need to head to the “E-hailing pick-up area”. It is located at Parkade P1 where you need to escalator down. I have included the pick-up area and information board photo below.
Make sure you do not go to the Parkade P2. This is where you find all the local taxis. Sometimes the local taxi may scam you by saying there is no Uber today. Remember Uber is 24 hours available in Cape Town, it is cheaper and safer the taxis.
Price To Main Tourist Attractions
Uber is not expensive in Cape Town. It only costs around 50 ZAR ( Per KM is around 50 ZAR around 3 USD). A 20-minute ride which is equivalent from the airport to most icons in the city center is around 200 ZAR(12 USD).

Safety Concerns For Taking Uber In Cape Town
While it is in general safe to take Uber in Cape Town as compared to Taxi, you still need to be aware of some safety concerns.
- Never settle your Uber bills out of the app there is no extra fee other than the one shown in the app. Some drivers may try to scam you for an extra fee when passing icons like Chapman’s Peak.
- If you are female and traveling solo in Cape Town. It is better to take premium Uber like Uberblack. If possible, public transport like buses (only available in the City Center) or group buses would be safer options. Notably, there have been at least two Uber incidents on females in 2024.
- While on Uber always turn on the app for tracking, if there is an unusually long drive or the route does not match, you should shout out.
One way or another Uber is preferred over taxis or even Bolt. After all, by using Uber in Cape Town, you at least would have tracking on the car and driver and you know which company to find if you have trouble.
After all, Cape Town is notorious for robbery and violence, especially in some suburbs. Safety is in only a relative sense. Want to know more about safety for traveling in Cape Town? Check out our blog post dedicated to Cape Town safety.
